PLANTS

PLANTS:
The plants in the deserts have to adapt to harsh condition to survive in the desert. They have many abilities to help them live in the desert. One ability is plant in the deserts also have long roots that go very deep in the earth to help them reach water. Another unique thing about plants in the deserts is that they have thick stems to hold water for a very long time until it rains again. Plants also have another great abilty which is botany , a waxy covering which prevents water loss. They have trachoma too. Which is like hair that protect them and will deflect the heat. Plants have one more way to keep cool which is they have small and narrow leafs which help decreased heat from the sun. These are all abilities that plants have to help then survive in the desert.

ANIMALS:
Animals are like the plants that have to adapt to harsh full environments to survive. Only a few animals came out in day light. And try to find a shade to keep cool. Like most animals in the desert are mostly small they stay deep underground to stay cool because the sand underground is more cooler than the sand up on the surface. Then when the sun goes down, is when mostly all animals came out. They are called nocturnal. Most animals in the desert are nocturnal because in the desert the temperature drops down and becomes cooler at night. They also come out at night to hunt for their food. But even though some animals come out in night or day light they both have something in common which is the why they get water. Water is very important to the animals that live in the desert especial when the desert is always hot. The animals that are herbivores they get water from plants or seed that can hold water. Animals that are carnivores they get water by eating other animals. But the omnivores are the most lucky ones because they eat both animals and plants. And can get their water from two sources. This is how animals survive in the desert. (www.nps.gov/archive/whsa/animals.htm - 6k -)

The Thorny Devil

The Thorny Devil is a reptile, and is only about sixteen cm. This animal fits into the food web by eating ant, and termites, gettinf food for it self, which is then eaten by bigger animals that need food a d water to survive. Evan though its body is coverd in sharp spikes, anilmas will do anything for food or water. These lizards are very slow moving animals so it is hard for them to catch food, and get away from preditors.

Carbon Cycle-The light-independant stage starts by attaching carbon dioxide abtained from the air to ribulose biphoshate in a reaction called carboxylation that ia catalyzed by the enzne RuBP(rubisco). In a cycle of reactions carbon is then combined with hyr=drogen obtained from NADPH; The NAPD returns to the light-dependant stage. This cycle ends with the synthesis of molecules of glucose and of RuBP.

Precipitation

Hot and dry deserts temperature ranges from 20 to 25c.The extreme maximum temperature for Hot desert ranges from 43.6 to 49c.Cold deserts temperature in winter ranges from 2 to 4c and in the summer 21 to 26c ayear.
The precipitation in Hot and dry deserts and the precipitation in cold deserts usually have very little rainfall and/or concentratedrainfall in short periods. This averages out to under 15 cm ayear.Cold deserts usually have lots of snow. They also have rain around spring. This averages out to 15 to 26cm ayear.
